The HZB BULK-MAIL LABEL PRINTER

To qualify for the lowest bulk-mail rates, mail must
be 'automation compatible'. For Standard rates, it can be
"machinable".

AUTOMATION. Every address must be viable according to
the USPS database, with documentation certifying that the
list has been corrected according to CASS specifications
within the past six months, and the pieces must contain
the 'postnet' barcode.
The HZB program integrates 'Postage$aver' to sort and
to produce the necessary documentation for Automation
compatible mail. If you wish to use this feature, you need
to register with 'Postage$aver' (this costs about $45).
Automation-compatible labels can be printed with barcodes
using MS Word or another graphics-printing merge program.

MACHINABLE. Rubber-banding is not used, but the addresses
must be machine-readable, be sorted according to AADC,
and be certifed to have been corrected according to CASS
specifications within the past twelve months. Barcodes are
not necessary.
Non-automation labels can be printed directly from HZB.

BATCHED. In this optional mode, pieces are sorted into batches according to
zip code and ADC. The first label in a batch is identified with a batch-mark:
D - Direct (10 or more pieces to a certain 5-digit zip code)
3 - Zip center (10 or more pieces to a 3-digit zip center)
A - ADC (10 or more pieces to a certain Area Distribution Center)
M - Mixed (no particular grouping)
The HZB batch sort produces an OEL (Optional Endorsement Line).
Addresses can be imported from other systems and then
sorted into batches. A report of the number of pieces in each
batch can be viewed or printed.

OPERATION

The default format expected for the imported file is a comma-
delimited ASCII file named "Zip2sort.txt" with each address ending
with a carriage-return/line-feed, containing these fields:

1- Name
2- Name line 2 (or Address line or blank)
3- Address line (or blank)
4- City
5- State
6- Zip code
7- Country (or blank)

Other input formats can be used by changing the parameters
of the Importer program and the input-format (.xfr) file.
